Verify a HETAS Company ID
Your installer should have a 4-digit HETAS Company ID. Use this page to verify it against HETAS's live UK register. We also link directly to HETAS's certificate search and installer-find tools.
Verify a HETAS Company ID
Enter the 4-digit HETAS Company ID your installer gave you. We'll open the official HETAS search in a new tab with the ID copied to your clipboard — ready to paste in.
Or check by postcode
HETAS's installer search also accepts a postcode for finding local registered installers.

A HETAS Company ID is a 4-digit number that uniquely identifies a registered business in the UK's only Competent Person Scheme for solid fuel appliances. The ID should appear on every quote, invoice, and Certificate of Compliance the installer issues.
HETAS maintains the register at hetas.co.uk. There's no public API — verification is done via their interactive forms. Reputable third-party tools (this page included) link to HETAS's own search rather than maintaining a parallel database.
What to do if the ID doesn't check out
- Don't proceed with the install.Either the installer isn't HETAS-registered or they're using someone else's ID — both are serious red flags.
- Cancel and reclaim any deposit. Using a deceptive registration claim is a misrepresentation; you have grounds to cancel under UK consumer law.
- Report to HETAS: info@hetas.co.uk or 01684 278170. HETAS cooperates with Trading Standards on serious cases.
- Find a properly registered installer via the installer matching form or HETAS's own postcode search.

Frequently asked questions
How do I verify a HETAS-registered installer?
Three ways: (1) ask for their 4-digit HETAS Company ID and check it on hetas.co.uk/consumer/services/installers/ via the "Check Business" tab, (2) ask to see their HETAS Registered Operative card, (3) confirm they carry minimum £2 million public liability insurance.
Where do I find a HETAS Company ID?
It should appear on every quote, invoice, and Certificate of Compliance the installer issues. It's a 4-digit number that uniquely identifies their HETAS registration. If they can't or won't provide it, that's a serious red flag.
What happens if my installer's HETAS ID doesn't check out?
Don't proceed with the install. The installer either isn't HETAS-registered or is using someone else's ID — both are serious. Report it to HETAS via info@hetas.co.uk or 01684 278170, and find a properly registered installer.
Can I check if a past install was HETAS-certified?
Yes — search by postcode at hetas.co.uk/consumer/certificates-of-compliance/. HETAS keeps every notification on a central database. If a record exists, you can order a replacement certificate for £34.80 inc. VAT.
What if no record exists for my install?
Either the installer never notified HETAS, or it wasn't done by a HETAS-registered installer. You'll need to apply to Local Authority Building Control for a regularisation certificate (£200–£400; may require remedial work to bring the install up to current Part J standards).
Does HETAS have a public API I can query?
No — HETAS doesn't publish a public API for installer or certificate verification. The search tools on hetas.co.uk are web-based forms requiring email verification per session. Third-party tools (like this page) link to HETAS's own search rather than maintaining a parallel database.
