Privacy Policy

Who we are

LogBurnerCost (https://logburnercost.co.uk) is a UK consumer guide and installer-matching service for log burner installations. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, and your rights under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

What we collect, and why

Calculator inputs. Your postcode, property age, room size, chimney status, scenario, stove tier, multifuel preference, and add-on selections are processed in your browser to compute your estimate. None of this is stored on our servers unless you choose to submit your email to request installer quotes.

Lead form data. When you submit the email form on the results page or the installer page, we collect your email address, the postcode and scenario you entered, and the estimate that was generated. Lawful basis: legitimate interests (matching you with installers you’ve requested).

Site analytics. If you accept analytics, we use Microsoft Clarity to understand how visitors use the site through interaction metrics, heatmaps and session recordings. This helps us improve navigation, content and the calculator. Our lawful basis for this optional analytics processing is your consent. See the Microsoft Clarity section below.

Server logs. Our hosting provider (Vercel) keeps standard web-server logs containing IP addresses and request data for security and operational purposes. These are retained according to Vercel’s policy and not used for marketing.

Who we share data with

HETAS-registered installers. If you submit the installer matching form, we share your email, postcode, and scenario with up to three HETAS-registered installers in your postcode area. We do not share your details with installers outside the area you indicated.

Email service provider. Confirmation and transactional emails are sent via Resend (a third-party email service). Resend processes your email address for the sole purpose of delivering our email; it does not use your details for any other purpose.

Microsoft. When you accept analytics, website usage data is sent to Microsoft through Clarity. Microsoft’s processing and privacy choices are described in its Privacy Statement. We do not send lead-form submissions to Microsoft as analytics events or use Clarity’s identify API to attach your email or name.

How long we keep it

  • Calculator inputs: used in your browser for the estimate unless you submit the email form. If you accept analytics, interaction data is also subject to the Clarity retention below.
  • Lead submissions: retained for 12 months for service quality monitoring and complaint handling, then deleted
  • Clarity analytics: Microsoft retains ordinary session playback for 30 days, and heatmap/click data and saved (labelled or favourited) sessions for up to 9 months. See Clarity’s retention policy.
  • Analytics preference: stored in your browser for up to 180 days, then we ask again.
  • Server logs: per Vercel’s standard retention (typically 30 days)
  • Email service records: per Resend’s standard retention

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you (a Subject Access Request)
  • Have inaccurate data corrected
  • Have your data deleted (the “right to be forgotten”)
  • Restrict our processing of your data
  • Receive your data in a portable format
  • Object to our processing
  • Lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO)

Microsoft Clarity and cookies

Clarity helps us see which pages visitors use and where they have difficulty, using page-view and interaction data such as clicks, scrolling, navigation, device/browser information, heatmaps and session replays. A replay is a reconstruction of website activity, not a recording from your camera or microphone.

We load Clarity only after you select “Accept analytics”. It can then use cookies and similar technologies to recognise visits and connect activity across pages, including the _clck and _clsk cookies. We grant analytics storage consent and keep advertising storage consent denied. We do not use this integration to run advertising campaigns.

We mark calculator and lead-form content for masking in Clarity, including displayed answer summaries, so that this content is obscured in recordings. Clarity also masks input and dropdown values by default. Interaction events, such as clicking through the calculator, can still be recorded when you accept analytics.

Choosing “Reject analytics” leaves the calculator and guides fully available. You can withdraw consent or change your choice at any time using Cookie settings in the footer. Withdrawing after accepting removes Clarity’s first-party cookies and reloads the page to unload the tracker. This does not automatically delete data already collected; contact us about your data rights.

We store your choice in local storage under logburnercost-analytics-consent-v1 for up to 180 days. This preference storage is used to remember your privacy choice, not to analyse your activity. If you clear browser storage or use another browser, you will need to choose again.

Changes to this policy

We update this policy when our data practices change. The “last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent material change. Significant changes will be communicated to recent lead submitters by email.
